Sri Aurobindo's Savitri has been described by Raymond Piper as "perhaps the most beautiful artistic work in the world for expanding man's mind towards the absolute." In this epic poem the legend of Savitri becomes a record of Sri Aurobindo's own and the Mother's spiritual experience and the vehicle of their entire teaching showing how man's perennial aspiration for the perfection of human life on earth can find its glorious fulfillment. The visionary and revelatory element on Savitri marks it an outstanding example of a new kind of poetry. The nine talks by Mangesh Nadkarni are intended as a first introduction to the meaning of Savitri and to the magic of its mantric poetry.
